Kansas City Southern Rail Groundbreaking

Gene Lindgren, LEDC President & CEO, attended the Binational Groundbreaking for a new KCS rail bridge.

Community leaders from both sides of the border and members of the private sector came together Monday, Oct. 31 for a groundbreaking ceremony as Kansas City Southern is starting to enter the construction phase of its $100 million project to build a new international railroad bridge.

The event on the Laredo side started at the KCS rail yard in east Laredo with dignitaries riding on the Southern Belle that included restored vintage passenger rail cars. Trains met halfway across the current bridge where both Mayors and Consul Generals waved at each other.

The Southern Belle returned to the Laredo side where several officials spoke of the importance of this major investment to our binational community while concluding with a joint groundbreaking.

Mr. Lindgren was also invited to grab a shovel and participate in the ceremonial moving of dirt alongside several elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels.
