Mayor Saenz Statement on Senate Passage of USMCA

Laredo, Texas, Jan. 17-Mayor Pete Saenz welcomed the passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) by the United States Senate today:
“The announcement of the passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada agreement by the Senate is wonderful news for Laredo. As we continue to grow and compete globally in the international trade sector, the implementation of this enhanced and updated trade deal with our two largest trading partners – Mexico and Canada – will undoubtedly create more jobs and investment in our community, catapulting Laredo ever further from its current status as the second-largest port in the United States and the largest land port.”I, along with countless city and business leaders, fought hard to make sure our representatives and the White House understood the importance of this agreement not only for the border region, but for all three countries. The USMCA, through its varied, yet integrated network of supply chains, will increase jobs, facilitate infrastructure, create specialization and, more importantly, will continue to develop markets with fair and reasonable pricing on goods and services for consumers.
“The road to today’s vote has been a long one, but I especially thank our Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz as well as our Congressman Henry Cuellar for supporting this legislation in both chambers of Congress. I know I speak for everyone in our community when I say I look forward to the President signing this legislation and bringing forth a new era of prosperity for trade and commerce.”
